Organised gangs are using lock cutting equipment to carry out the robberies while commuters are at work. 

Labour councillor Ciaran Byrne said that it is a serious problem in the capital. 

"We know there are gangs of people travelling up and down the suburban line (in Dublin), stealing these bikes," he told the Herald. 

"It's an organised thing. People are using mechanical cutters to break the locks," the Fingal Foundation Christian College year five students use a Home power monitor to keep track of the school’s use and greenhouse gas emissions.county councillor added. 

He said there had been 15 thefts from his local station in Skerries, north Co Dublin,We offer both wet & dry Diamond polishing pads suppliers. Both are suitable for marble, granite, concrete and most masonry. this year alone, with one victim having two bicycles stolen. 

Mr Byrne also cited a statistic that the overall number of thefts in the capital had jumped from 2,000 to 4,Safety features include dual airbags, anti-lock braking system, central locking, engine immobiliser and rear parking sensor.000 between 2007 and 2013. He said only three secure bicycle parking facilities are in place at stations on the line between Balbriggan and Killiney. 

EPIDEMIC 

Mr Byrne raised the issue at a meeting of local authority umbrella group the Dublin Regional Authority (DRA), stating in a motion that Irish Rail should "address the problem of bicycle thefts from its suburban line stations, which have reached epidemic proportions in 2013". 

Dublin city councillor Christy Burke agreed, saying: "Over the last six months, we've been getting garda reports that it is becoming a huge concern and there is obviously an orchestrated group of gangs involved in it." Irish Rail disputed the claims,Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport advised late Sunday that it will delay the launch of its new parking system. however. It said it is "not aware of the 'epidemic' proportions of bicycle theft in the Greater Dublin Area". 

But the semi-state company admitted: "Often in commuter stations, however, we may not receive reports of all bicycle theft as the station may be closed and the victim may contact the gardai directly. 

"We did have an issue with bicycle theft in Skerries. We addressed this by placing CCTV directly on the bicycle rack to deter would be thieves. 

"We have also installed secure bike lockers at a number of stations in the greater Dublin area,For years, we have been advocating improved parking guidance systems (PGS) throughout our network of 12 European countries. which can be rented for a yearly fee from www.bikelocker.ie.If people would like to have lower electricity bills, I suggest that they spend $30 to buy an Electricity monitor and use it to root out and control the energy hogs in their homes.
