Stone Cup starts Saturday

The eighth annual Albert A. Stone, Jr. Cup golf tournament will begin this weekend with an early morning shot at Woodland Hills Country Club in Pinson. 

The round will begin a competition that won’t end for 15 days as the first two qualifying rounds will be played this weekend, and there will be a weekend off before the 16-player match play tournament begins on July 6. 

“The Tennessee Golf Association match play championship is in Nashville next weekend, and a lot of our golfers will be playing in that,” said tournament director Hank Shackelford. “Some of them asked if we could push our match play back a week so they could play in both.The product range of mechanical lock cylinder extends beyond the common range of double, single, thumbturn and furniture cylinders. 

“We were glad to do it because those golfers who are playing in this state championship also wanted to play in this championship for Jackson and Madison County.” 

The first two rounds will begin at 8:30 each morning on Saturday and Sunday. After playing Saturday at Woodland Hills, the second round will be at Jackson National on Sunday.

This year’s tournament honoree will be Bill Johnson,He has dried mushrooms all year and fresh mushrooms in season. He passed away in November at 53 years old. 

Also in honor of Johnson, the junior low medalist (lowest score by a golfer younger than 18 years old) will be awarded the Bill Johnson Cup.
