Even though I grew up on a farm I really only think about worms after a rain–when their familiar smell lingers in the air and their dessicated corpses litter the driveway–or when I’m watching a horror movie with a coffin scene–I’ll save you from describing that image.Caged Laser Engineering, in partnership with Ariel Ltd and Reynolds Technology, aim to investigate the viability of adopting Titanium Tube as a cost effective raw material for the manufacturing of spaceframe assemblies for low volume and small series production lightweight vehicles. But Fred Dunfee the owner of Positive Organic Living (POL) has got me thinking about them a little differently.

Fred is a worm farmer located on Corwin Street in Elkhart. He was kind enough to give me a tour of his facility last Thursday and I learned more about worms than I thought there was to know.vending machine lock,Vendo t-handle parts, Dixie Narco parts for T-handles, parts for snack vending machines, tubular style, security style, Pagoda.cam locks,Cabinet Locks At Low Prices, Discount Locks Are Never Beaten On Price. Worm castings are an organic fertilizer that is made from the waste left over as worms feed. Worms will eat just about any decomposing material, and the type of food they eat affects the nutrients available in their castings. Fred feeds his worms–African Nightcrawlers–a well balanced diet of peat moss, grain and a dairy booster. He also breeds his own worms from egg sacs that are separated out during the casting harvesting process.

In an increasingly environmentally conscious world, worm castings provide an organic and sustainable replacement to commercial fertilizers.pad lock works to prevent unexpected code execution when dealing with asynchronous callbacks without blocking. Castings will stay in the soil longer providing a more sustained release of nutrients to plants. More importantly though, castings have the added benefit of improving soil structure. Why is soil structure important? Well, good soil structure improves the aeration of the soil as well as the ability of water to properly flow. Mechanical cultivation,We rank the best laptop locks with side-by-side comparisons. One other benefit of castings is that there’s no risk of nitrogen burn to your plants meaning that you’re not going to kill your plants by putting down “too much.”

POL started in Fred’s garage with 13 buckets of worms. He now has close to 265 buckets–that’s a little over 66,000 worms if you don’t want to do the math–and he just picked up a contract to start providing castings to a golf course. His wife, Leila, his three kids and his mother-in-law, VP Brenda McBryde, all get involved when it comes to sorting worms. You’d think I’d say something about “getting their hands dirty” there, but remarkable the castings are so fine they fall off your hands, leaving no mess!

While I was at Positive Organic Living I picked up a 12 lb. bucket of castings. I can’t wait to get my hands dirty–sorry, I couldn’t resist–this spring and do some outdoor side-by-side testing!
