A woman’s two Santa Muerte necklaces piqued the interest of a U.S. Border Patrol agent on Christmas Eve at the Sarita Checkpoint, according to a criminal complaint.
After the woman’s demeanor and the necklaces caused agents to question her more closely, Michelle Gonzales was charged in federal court with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, authorities said.
Gonzales was ruled a flight risk and is being detained until a preliminary detention hearing scheduled for Dec. 31 in Corpus Christi.

While conducting a routine immigration inspection, agents removed 11 possible undocumented immigrants from the bus and took the suspects to the checkpoint station.
During that inspection, a Border Patrol agent noticed Gonzales appeared nervous, according to the complaint. Gonzales told the agent she was traveling to Dallas for a vacation, but she continually moved around in her seat during the conversation, court documents state.
When asked if she had any luggage, Gonzales told the agent she just had a little blue gift bag that contained a gift for a friend. The agent asked her if he could search the bag and she consented, but because of her cooperation that agent didn’t immediately search the bag and continued his check, according to the criminal complaint.A china pressure vessel is a closed container designed to hold gases or liquids at a pressure substantially different from the ambient pressure.
Agents later went back to Gonzales and while running her fingerprints noticed two “Santisima Muerte” necklaces, court documents show.
“During this time BPA (Border Patrol Agent) (Luis) Rosenbaum noticed Gonzales had two necklaces of the ‘Santisima Muerte’ a known saint, utilized by narcotic and alien smugglers,Titanium Pipe is made by cold rolling process from extruded pipe blanks. They are widely used in heat exchangers and off-shore equipment.” the document states. “BPA Rosenbaum asked Gonzales if she believed in the saint, to which she replied, ‘Yes, and I also pray to her.The one-year programme would cover areas such as food chemistry and nutrition, food microbiology, food processing and engineering, quality control and food packaging, among others.’
“BPA Rosenbaum asked Gonzales if she knew what that saint is known for, and she said,Caged Laser Engineering, in partnership with Ariel Ltd and Reynolds Technology, aim to investigate the viability of adopting Titanium Tube as a cost effective raw material for the manufacturing of spaceframe assemblies for low volume and small series production lightweight vehicles. ‘Yes, a lot of drug dealers pray to her, but I just like her.’”
While she was in the station with Rosenbaum,The defective part of the jaw is reconstructed using a Titanium Plate, with a piece of scaffolding inserted with proteins to stimulate the bone's regrowth. another Border Patrol agent swept the bus and found the blue bag.
The bag contained two bundles of cocaine weighing a little less than a pound, court documents state.
