Father and son jailed after brutal attack which could see victim lose his eye

A man has yet to learn whether he will lose his eye after being assaulted in a vicious, brutal and sustained attack by a father and son duo. 

Heavy goods vehicle driver Gwyn Jones was plunged into depression following the attack during which he suffered multi facial and bodily injuries following the attack by Richard Bruton, 47 and his son David, 21. 

They were both jailed for seven years at Merthyr Tydfil Crown Court.

Mr Jones was left facially disfigured after suffering a displaced fracture of his eye socket, which in turn trapped the muscle controlling the eyeball movement. 

He had a fractured nose, bodily grazes, facial cuts requiring stitching, pain opening his jaw, numbness to his cheek and significant damage to the eye itself and had to have an emergency operation to relieve bleeding behind the eye.

“He has been told it will be months or years before the full extent of the injuries is known,” said David Pugh, prosecuting.

Mr Jones was at the Conservative Club, Aberdare, and there had been an altercation between him and David Bruton.
