Truck show just keeps getting bigger

Nearly 150 trucks were on display — 145 to be exact — as Rantoul hosted the seventh annual Top Gun Large Car Shootout during the weekend at the airport.

“It was more than expected, actually,” Reitz said. 

The weather was far milder than a typical July weekend, but Reitz didn’t think that had much to do with the turnout of trucks.

The mild weather likely helped the turnout of people who showed up to take a look at the semis and cars on display. 

“It got a little cold Saturday night, but for the daytime you couldn’t ask for any better,” he said.” 

Reitz said those who displayed their vehicles expressed satisfaction with the show.

Reitz said there were so many trucks on display that it took judges from noon Saturday to 11:30 Saturday night to get all the trucks judged.
