She and her husband were slated to relocate their business, Hana’s Bakery, in days. Their contractor, James Donald Sides Jr., kept putting them off. His excuses wouldn’t stop. Roberson’s accusations that Sides took some $30,000 worth of bakery equipment and sold some of it as scrap led Magistrate Court Judge Bob Couey on Friday to order Sides arrested on charges of theft by taking and theft by deception.

Roberson has recovered about 60 percent of her equipment. Police detective Pete Sailors said Friday it appeared Sides sold some of the equipment to a recycling business. There was no discussion in court about the almost $20,000 Roberson said she paid Sides to move her equipment from the old bakery on North Broad Street to its new Spider Webb Drive location and install it.

That’s little comfort for the woman who came to America in the mid-90s from the Czech Republic.
