If you've read my columns in the past, you know I get really excited about the produce coming into the market in June. I'm especially looking forward to the strawberries. Right now on the farm, we're working long hours and planting potatoes, sweet potatoes, grape tomatoes and cherry tomatoes. Our corn is about two inches out of the ground and will be ready for the market in September. Later this week I'm picking up my brand new 30- by 75-foot hoop house. I'm so excited about it; it will extend my farming season by about three months. I've spent six years making what I feel is the most beautiful organic soil on earth. Wait until you taste the delicious variety of carrots I grow in my hoop house. I'll bring them to the market this fall.

I'd like to give a big shout out to all the children who called out to me and waved at me at the Celebrate Birmingham Hometown Parade. I enjoyed seeing you at the parade, and I'd love it even more if you'd stop by my booth and visit with me at the Farmers Market. Remember, the market is open an hour longer this season.
