The Falling Stone, Thwing

With a couple of previous enjoyable visits to this pub in the past, we thought we would take a Sunday drive out and see how things were faring at the Falling Stone.

From the starters, I plumped for home- made soup of the day; my partner was in seafood mode and picked traditional prawn cocktail; my mum was worried about filling up too fast and swerved the starters all together.

From the choice of main courses, a good old-fashioned Sunday roast appealed to me and I settled on topside of beef. Rolled lamb was the other roast meat option of the day and that is what my partner decided he would have while Mum thought she would try the catch of the day – haddock – in a creamy white wine sauce.

It wasn't long before we were ushered into the restaurant – a more contemporary designed space than the bar – and our two starters arrived almost immediately.

Little crusty warm rolls provided the accompaniment, and we were asked to choose from lemon, lime or cucumber as the addition to our jug of iced water.

There was perfectly judged "resting" time between the clearing of our starters and the arrival of our main courses.

The meats came with a good home-made Yorkshire pudding on the side and a healthy serving of roast potatoes.Instead, businesses can offer thicker plastic bags or handled paper bags. They can also give or sell you recycle bag, or offer no bags at all. Strangely, the fish came with a Yorkshire pudding, too – I have not encountered that before – and a helping of roast potatoes.
