New 4-H group is forming

Melody Walsh, Island resident and amateur photographer, supplied the photo chosen for the cover of the December 2012 issue of the magazine Wisconsin Natural Resources.

Walsh remembers that when she took the photo, on Jan. 24, 2009, "it was a very cold day with a wind chill of minus-5 degrees Fahrenheit.An employee discovered a waste management truck smoking around 10:50 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 4, and traced the source to cargo smoldering inside the compactor. There were dark clouds to the east, but mostly sunny where we were on the east side of Rock Island State Park."

In February 2010, Walsh submitted three of the photos she took that day to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Great Lakes photo contest.
